~ Characteristics of Our Relationship
with Our Heavenly Father ~
Real Love for the Father
~ “And because you are sons, God has sent forth
the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying
out, ‘Abba, Father!’ Therefore you
are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ” (Galatians 4:6-7). Jesus said, “But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I
do. Arise, let us go from here” (John
14:31).
Friendly Interaction with the Father
~ “For
you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom
we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’” (Romans 8:15).
Exercise Child-like Trust in the
Father ~ Jesus
said, “Therefore do
not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What
shall we wear?’ For after all these
things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need
all these things. But seek first the
kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to
you. Therefore
do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”
(Matthew 6:31-34).
Confiding Submission to the Father
~ “Jesus
went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were
possible, the hour might pass from Him. And
He said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will’” (Mark
14:35-36).
Loving, Willing Service for the Father
~ “For the love of Christ compels us, because
we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all,
that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died
for them and rose again” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”
(Matthew 5:16).
