~ Jesus Christ
Cared (and cares) About the Outcasts of Society ~
General Comment
~ When Jesus saw there was always an appropriate reaction and in each case
we can learn from the event.
Today’s Scripture
~ “Now
it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria
and Galilee. Then as He entered a
certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. And they lifted up their voices and said, ‘Jesus,
Master, have mercy on us!’ So when He saw them, He said to them, ‘Go, show
yourselves to the priests.’ And so it
was that as they went, they were cleansed” (Luke 17:11-14).
Application ~ It is
the outcasts of society, those who are down-and-out, who most readily recognize
their need of help, of a Savior. “For you see your calling,
brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many
noble, are called. But God has chosen
the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen
the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (1
Corinthians 1:26-27). A former queen of
England commented how glad she was that there was the “m” in those phrases
(that it didn’t say, “not any”).
