Did The Law End With Christ? ~
Scripture ~ “Brethren,
my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal
for God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ
is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness
which is of the law, ‘The man who does those things shall live by them.’ But the righteousness of faith speaks in this
way, ‘Do not say in your heart, “Who will ascend into heaven?”’ (that is, to
bring Christ down from above) or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is,
to bring Christ up from the dead). But
what does it say? ‘The word is near you,
in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that
if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that
God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on
Him will not be put to shame.’ For there
is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to
all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever
calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved’” (Romans 10:1-13).
“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made
without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the
circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were
raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the
dead. And you, being dead in your
trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together
with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us,
which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having
nailed it to the cross. Having
disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:11-15).
Comments ~ Did
the Law end with Christ? Yes! “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ,
that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we
should bear fruit to God. For when we
were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at
work in our members to bear fruit to death.
But now we have been delivered
from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve
in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter” (Romans
7:4-6).
