God Attribute, 149

~ Name Is Sacred ~

This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Scripture ~ “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain” (Exodus 20:7).

“And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:13).

Comment ~ The word profane is closely related to the word common. That is the name of God is not a common or trivial name.

Alternative ~ “Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm 29:2).
