~ Why
Christmas ~
Questions
~ Is Christmas just a stable and a manger? But why did Jesus come?
We
don’t have to guess… He tells us why He
came! Below are some of the main reasons God came to earth in the form of the
man Jesus.
To
Serve Others ~ “Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons,
kneeling down and asking something from Him. 21 And He said to her, ‘What
do you wish?’ She said to Him, ‘Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one
on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.’
22 “But Jesus
answered and said, ‘You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup
that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized
with?’ They said to Him, ‘We are able.’
23 So He said to
them, ‘You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am
baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give,
but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.’
24 “And when the
ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. 25 But
Jesus called them to Himself and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the
Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over
them. 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires
to become great among you, let him be your servant. 27 And
whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave — 28 just
as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give
His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:20-28).
To
Complete ~ Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the
Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For
assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle
will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever
therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so,
shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches
them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For
I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the
scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven”
(Matthew 5:17-20).
To
Call ~ “Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that
behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His
disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His
disciples, ‘Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’
12 “When Jesus
heard that, He said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician,
but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: “I
desire mercy and not sacrifice.” For I did not come to call the righteous,
but sinners, to repentance’” (Matthew 9:10-13, see also Mark
2:17; Luke 5:32; John 3:16-18).
To
Witness To Truth ~ “Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘Are
You a king then?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say rightly
that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come
into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of
the truth hears My voice.’ 38 Pilate said to Him, ‘What is
truth?’ And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to
them, ‘I find no fault in Him at all’ (John 18:37-38).
To
Allow Sight ~ “Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the
world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of
life’” (John 8:12).
To
Provide Direction, Truth, and Life ~ “Jesus said
to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to
the Father except through Me’ (John 14:6).
To
Die For You ~ “Jesus came to serve and give His life as a ransom” (Matthew
20:20-28b).
