Love Not the World, 3

 

~  Because the God’s Word Has Commanded Us ~

 

Introduction to This Series ~ The word world does not refer to the physical world and all its creative beauty. Rather, it refers to the world system, its typical beliefs and often anti-God actions.

 

Scripture ~ “Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17).

 

Christ’s Prayer to The Father for You ~ “I gave them your Word; the godless world hated them because of it, because they didn’t join the world’s ways, just as I didn’t join the world’s ways.  I’m not asking that you take them out of the world but that you guard them from the Evil One.  They are no more defined by the world than I am defined by the world.  Make them holy — consecrated — with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth” (John 17:14-17, The Message).

 

Comment ~ This is a clear commandment which includes the reason for the commandment.

God Speaks, 17

 

Series Introduction ~ The one true God is a relational God who desires interaction with His created humans.  But it is up to each person to choose to listen carefully to the God of this universe.  In this series we look at various ways God communicates to us if we are willing to listen.  Keep in mind throughout this series that the most basic and important way to hear from God is read The Holy Bible with an open mind. 

 

Note ~ God is speaking to us – including you. Are you listening? Do you hear Him? Are you acting upon what He is saying to you?

 

Scripture ~ “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” (Psalm 25:14).

Comment ~ When my grandkids were smaller, I took them to “secret” places. For instance, I’d tell them, “We’re going into this restaurant. Do you want to go in the regular way like all the other people, or do you want to go in the secret way?”

“The secret way, Poppa!”

So I’d take them in through a side door, but they thought it was the secret way.

The Bible tells us that God revealed secrets to Noah: “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith” (Hebrews 11:7 NKJV).

God spoke to Noah, and it activated his faith.

There are a lot of ways that God speaks to us, but the primary way He speaks is through the word of God.

When you believe the Bible, you know things that other people don’t know. In fact, God reveals things to Christians that non-Christians don’t understand.

Because they believe the Bible, average Christians know more, in many ways, than some of the great intellects of the world. For instance, the Bible teaches that humanity is basically sinful. Now, that makes sense, and the world makes more sense when we accept the premise that we’re not basically good.

The Bible also teaches that God is good. It teaches that one day judgment will come to the world and that it’s going to get worse before it gets better. The Bible teaches that one day Christ will return and will right every wrong.

And the Bible says, “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant” (Psalm 25:14 NKJV).
