Quote: Jim Elliot, 9

~ Delight ~

What Do You Delight in More Than Anything Else?

The following is an excerpt from a book.

Christians, I want to ask you a question here this morning: What is your chief delight? What is it? What do you delight in most? What do you delight in more than anything else? What is it that you really enjoy more than anything?

I’ll tell you what it should be. It should be fellowship with God. You should be happiest not when you’re with a whole lot of people, not when you’re singing and shouting choruses and quoting Scripture verses and things like that. You should be happiest when you apprehend that God is so dealing with you that He dwells in you, that He walks with you. That should make you delirious with joy. Those should be your happiest moments.

That delight—in God—is the thing that brings desire in the heart to do good, and desire is beneath everything. If there is no desire to do God’s will, then the doing of God’s will is just outward conformity, and God doesn’t appreciate it at all.
