7 Aspects of God, 1of3

~ God—The Father ~

Our God is revealed in the Word of God as:

The God of All Grace  ~  “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.  To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 5:10-11).

The God of Peace  ~  “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 13:20-21). 

The God of All Comfort  ~  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). 

The God of Patience  ~  “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.  Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 15:4-6). 

The God of Hope  ~  “Isaiah says: ‘There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.’  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:12-13). 

The God of Glory  ~  “And he said, ‘Brethren and fathers, listen:  The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, and said to him, “Get out of your country and from your relatives, and come to a land that I will show you”.’” (Acts 7:2-3). 

Our God Forever  ~  “For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death” (Psalm 48:14).

Identity in Christ, 11

~ I Am a Citizen of Another World ~

Introduction  ~  When Christians understand the various characteristics and aspects of the birthright which came with their second birth, they comprehend their identity in Christ.  Once Christians understand their identity, their destiny is also clear!  This series of “Abundant Life Now” posts will look at one of those facets each week. 

This Week’s Verse  ~  Jesus said, “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.  They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth.  As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world” (John 17:14-18). 

~~~ EXPLANATORY “IDENTITY IN CHRIST” NOTES ~~~  

(1)  Each Monday ALN posts an example of Scripture’s description of aspects/characteristics of Christians—those who have personally trusted in Jesus Christ, The Messiah, as their personal Savior.

(2)  This series is not intended to be an exhaustive list.

(3)  God the Father described Himself to Moses as the great “I AM” (Exodus 3:14).  God the Son also said “I AM” (John 8:58). 

(4)  Jesus Christ is the Son of God and several times in the Gospel of John He refers to Himself as “I am.”  “I am the Bread of Life” (6:35-51), “I am the Light of the World” (8:12, 9:5), “I am the Door” (10:7-9), “I am the Good Shepherd” (10:11-14), “I am the Son of God” (10:36), “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (11:25), “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (14:6), “I am in the Father, and the Father in Me … Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me” (John 14:10-11), and “I am the True Vine” (15:1-5). 

(5)  Individual Christians are also sons and daughters of God.  This series will show some of the various “I am” aspects of a Christian.

Cross Words, 7of9

~ Words of Triumph & Completion—The True Purpose Driven Life! ~

Jesus Christ made seven gripping last statements while He was dying for our sins on the Cross of Calvary.  This is part of a Sunday series looking at the last words of our Lord Jesus Christ. 

The Passage (phrase 6)  ~  “Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.  So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’  And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit” (John 19:29-30). 

Comments  ~  The moment we are born we have begun the dying process.  Someone put it this way, “You and I were born with an expiration date.”  Will we finish what God wants us to do?  Jesus Christ, the Savior, completed His work on earth.  When He said “It is finished!” He made the most triumphant cry in all of history.  He died knowing that He had accomplished all that He intended to do.  He had completed God’s will for His life.  Remember that God the Father and the Son acted together on your behalf.  Jesus said, “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.  No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.  I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.  This command I have received from My Father” (John 10:17-18). 

Don’t Miss This  ~  (1) Jesus Christ finished His work with suffering and trauma.  (2) Jesus Christ came to serve and to suffer.  He came to live a perfect life so that He might present Himself as the “lamb [of God] without spot or blemish.”  (3) He suffered the emotional pains of rejection and mocking by those He came to save!  He suffered the physical pains of the cruelties of an unjust execution.  He suffered the spiritual pain of separation from the fellowship of God His Father.  (4) Because of Christ’s suffering your sin is conditionally paid in full.  (5) Payment for your sin is on deposit but can only be withdrawn by deliberately accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.  (6) You will still have sin within you—but the penalty for all your sin will be “Paid in Full.”  God, the Father and Judge of all will see you as clothed in the righteousness of His Son.  You will have a clear record on the books in heaven.  (7) Your forgiveness for all your sin (past, present, future) is forever—otherwise God would not call it “eternal” life.  (8) You will never be worthy of forgiveness but you must be willing to accept His payment on your behalf. 

the key question: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
