Messiah, 200

~ Messiah Would Die Voluntarily ~

“Search the Scriptures—they testify of Me.”
— Jesus Christ (John 5:39)

The Scripture
“Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He [Jesus Christ] poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:12).

The Messiah
Jesus said, “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.  No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself.  I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.  This command I have received from My Father’” (John 10:17-18).  “Again, a second time, He [Jesus Christ] went away and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done’” (Matthew 26:42).
“Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me.  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure.  Then I said, “Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God”.’  Previously saying, ‘Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them’ (which are offered according to the law), then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’  He takes away the first that He may establish the second.  By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:5-10).

~~~ EXPLANATORY “MESSIAH” NOTES ~~~
(1)  Each Saturday ALN posts an example of a Hebrew Scriptures prophecy (or foreshadowing) related to the coming Messiah which was fulfilled in the birth, life, death, or resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(2)  While extensive it will not be a complete list—there are hundreds of prophecies of the coming Messiah which have been fulfilled by one man—Jesus Christ at His First Coming.
(3)  It is important that there are many more prophecies of the Messiah, yet unfulfilled, which Christians believe will be fulfilled at the time of His Second Coming.  A particularly relevant Scripture verse in this regard is: “Do not despise prophesies” (1 Thessalonians 5:20).
(4)  These posts will typically consist only of Scripture—which speaks for itself.  Sometimes italicized or bold font will be used by ALN for emphasis.
(5)  The numbering of these fulfilled prophecies of the Messiah is used to differentiate individual posts. It is not chronological (either by time of the prophecy or by sequence in the life of the Messiah).  The posting sequence will, for the most part, be in the order that the prophecies appear in Scripture.
(6)  Because of the chosen methodology (#5 above) we will find many specific prophecies repeated multiple times throughout the Scriptures.
(7)  These serial posts are in addition to our regular Tuesday ALN postings on random topics.
Fear Not, 16
~ The Men of Israel Knew God’s Peace ~
God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).
Fear not,” or its equivalent, is recorded many times in Scripture—ALN will post one “fear not” each week during this calendar year.
This Week’s Verse  ~  “So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, ‘Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.’  And they drew near and put their feet on their necks.  Then Joshua said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies against whom you fight’” (Joshua 10:24-25).
The Foundation Of Peace  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid” (Psalm 27:1).
The Solution If You Lack Peace  ~  Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Psalm 119:165).  “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3).  “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Summary  ~  “No Christ = No Peace” versus “Know Christ = Know Peace”
Worship Buildings, 3of3
~ The Synagogue ~
Key Elements  ~  Jewish synagogues are centers of learning which arose during the Babylonian captivity—when the Jews had neither a tabernacle nor a temple.
Key Purpose  ~  The Jewish people gathered on the Sabbath to read the law and to pray.  Out of this practice came the synagogue (the “house of assembly”).
Key Results  ~   Whenever the Jewish people were scattered throughout the world they built synagogues to help them worship, preserve their heritage, and practice their religion.
Switching back now to the Temple from the Synagogue.
Key Belief  ~  The Jewish nation believes that Mt. Moriah is the only place the temple can be built and the only place where sacrifices can be offered.
Key Reality  ~  Today a Moslem mosque (the “Mosque of Omah” / “Dome of the Rock” / “Al-Aqsa Mosque”) is built on the Mt. Moriah site where the temple stood—and where the Jews believe the temple must be built again.
Key Anticipation  ~  1. Many Jewish religious leaders are convinced the existing mosque on Mt. Moriah will be supernaturally destroyed.  2. Many Christian scholars believe that the temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem and sacrifices once again will be offered before, or at least during, the Great Tribulation.
