Identity in Christ, 154

~ I Am Created For Relationships ~

Introduction  ~  When Christians understand the various characteristics and aspects of the birthright which came with their second birth, they comprehend their identity in Christ.  Once Christians understand their identity, their destiny is also clear!  This series of “Abundant Life Now” posts will look at one of those facets each week.

This Week’s Verse  ~  Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.  But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:17-19).

~~~ EXPLANATORY “IDENTITY IN CHRIST” NOTES ~~~
(1)  Each Monday ALN posts an example of Scripture’s description of aspects/characteristics of Christians—those who have personally trusted in Jesus Christ, The Messiah, as their personal Savior.
(2)  This series is not intended to be an exhaustive list.
(3)  God the Father described Himself to Moses as the great “I AM” (Exodus 3:14).  God the Son also said “I AM” (John 8:58).
(4)  Jesus Christ is the Son of God and several times in the Gospel of John He refers to Himself as “I am.  I am the Bread of Life” (6:35-51), “I am the Light of the World” (8:12, 9:5), “I am the Door” (10:7-9), “I am the Good Shepherd” (10:11-14), “I am the Son of God” (10:36), “I am the Resurrection and the Life” (11:25), “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (14:6), “I am in the Father, and the Father in Me … Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me” (John 14:10-11), and “I am the True Vine” (15:1-5).
(5)  Individual Christians are also sons and daughters of God.  This series will show some of the various “I am” aspects of a Christian.
Jesus Is..., 20
~ Jesus Christ Is The Life ~
Passages  ~  “Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’  Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:5-6).
“Martha said to Him, ‘I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.’  Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?’  She said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world’” (John 11:24-27).
Significance  ~  By His resurrection Jesus Christ proved He has power over death.  He has promised that just as He rose from the dead so too will those who have placed their faith in Him for eternal life.
Comment  ~  The Apostle John in his writings (his Gospel and Epistles) makes it clear that God is Love, Light, and Life!
the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
Fact Check, 38
~ Give Up Fun—Adhere To Rules ~
People Think  ~  If I become a Christian it means I will have no fun and be governed by a bunch of strict rules and regulations.
God Answers  ~  Forget about deciding what’s right for each other.  Here’s what you need to be concerned about: that you don’t get in the way of someone else, making life more difficult than it already is.  I’m convinced—Jesus convinced me!—that everything as it is in itself is holy.  We, of course, by the way we treat it or talk about it, can contaminate it.  If you confuse others by making a big issue over what they eat or don’t eat, you’re no longer a companion with them in love, are you?  These, remember, are persons for whom Christ died.  Would you risk sending them to hell over an item in their diet?  Don’t you dare let a piece of God-blessed food become an occasion of soul-poisoning!  God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake.  It’s what God does with your life as he sets it right, puts it together, and completes it with joy.  Your task is to single-mindedly serve Christ.  Do that and you’ll kill two birds with one stone: pleasing the God above you and proving your worth to the people around you” (Rom 14:13-18, The Message).
“But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him’” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10b).
Comment  ~  Rather than a dull unenjoyable life the Christian life is vibrant, joyful and beyond the imagination of a non-believer.  You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).  “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).
