~ My Heart Guides ~
Bible Quotation?
~ “Just follow your own heart.” “At the end of the day, just follow your
heart.” “Follow whatever your heart is
telling you to do.”
The Bible Says
~ Those statements are not in the Bible, but the Bible does
have a lot to say about the human heart.
“The
heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).
“Truly
the hearts of the sons of men are full of
evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to
the dead” (Ecclesiastes 9:3b).
“When
Jesus had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him
concerning the parable. So He said to
them, ‘Are you thus without understanding also?
Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot
defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is
eliminated, thus purifying all foods?’
And He said, ‘What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from
within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an
evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
All these evil things come from within and defile a man’” (Mark
7:17-23).
The Significance ~ Clearly following our heart is a bad idea! Instead, we need to follow the instructions
which God has given man in His written Word of God and the leading of His Holy
Spirit. Go to the divine heart surgeon
for help.
“I will give you a new heart and put a
new spirit within you; I will take the
heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you
to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them” (Ezekiel
36:26-27).
Jesus said, “I will pray the Father, and He
will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of
truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows
Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with
you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17).
The Result ~ “My little children, let us not love in word
or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows
all things. Beloved, if our heart does
not condemn us, we have confidence toward God” (1 John 3:18-21).
