Jesus Is…, 41

~ Jesus Christ Is The Lord of Lords ~

Passages  ~  “I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power.  Amen” (1 Timothy 6:13-16).

“These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful” (Revelation 17:14).

“Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations.  And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.  He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:15-16).

Significance  ~  At its basic level the term Lord denotes One who has dominion.  God is in fact the Supreme Being who controls all things.  “Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence” (Colossians 1:15-18).

Comment  ~  While a king is a fact regardless of whether honored as such a lord in normal sense has to be given that authority.  However, in the Scripture we learn that Jesus Christ is the Lord regardless of whether we acknowledge Him as such.

Throughout Scripture we find different uses of the term lord.  With respect to God examples include:  Jehovah (Hebrew), the proper name for God, is often translated as Lord.  Singular ‘adon and plural ‘adonai (Hebrew) has the meaning of absolute control (sovereign).  Kurios (Greek) means supreme master.

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Fact Check, 69

~ A Son ~

People Think  ~  Jesus was “a son of God.”

The Bible Says  ~  Jesus Christ was not “a” son of God.  He is the only divine Son of God!  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17).

All other children of God are adopted into the family!  “Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.  Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.  But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:1-5).

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6).

Learn From Gideon, 33

~ God Keeps His Word ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  And every man stood in his place all around the camp; and the whole army ran and cried out and fled.  When the 300 blew the trumpets, the Lord set every man’s sword against his companion throughout the whole camp; and the army fled to Beth Acacia, toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath” (Judges 7:21-22)

Learn From Gideon  ~  We serve a faithful and trustworthy God—One who always keeps His word and His promises.
  1. God gave Gideon specific instructions.
  2. Gideon followed God’s instruction.
  3. God kept His word to Gideon!  “…God, who cannot lie…” (Titus 1:2).
  4. We can be assured that if we do God’s work in His way we will accomplish that which He has set forth for us to do.
  5. In a future day everyone will understand that God is a faithful and true God.  “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse.  And He [Jesus Christ—Son of God’ who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war” (Revelation 19:11).

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
