Jesus Is…, 50

~ Jesus Christ Is Immortal ~

Passages  ~  “The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power.  Amen” (1 Timothy 6:15b-16).
“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever.  Amen” (1 Timothy 1:17).
“Have you not known?  Have you not heard?  The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.  His understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28).
“Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him.  His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed” (Daniel 7:14).

Significance  ~  But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.  I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power.  Amen” (1 Timothy 6:11-16).

Comment  ~  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:2-4).  Exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.  For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion’” (Hebrews 3:13-15).

additional remark:  For a different look and fuller understanding of the immortality of God see chapter 12, entitled “Without Time Constraints” in the international award winning book GOD LIGHT: Sunlight Sonlight (find details by clicking on the God Light tab above).

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Salvation, 6

~ The Source of Salvation ~

Salvation is not a Reward for the Righteous.
It is an available Gift for those who understand their Guilt!

“Salvation Belongs To The Lord” (its origin)  ~  “Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God!  For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.  Salvation belongs to the Lord.  Your blessing is upon Your people.  Selah” (Psalm 3:7-8).

“Salvation Is Of The Lord” (its worker)  ~  “‘Those who regard worthless idols forsake their own Mercy.  But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed.  Salvation is of the Lord.’  So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land” (Jonah 2:8-10).

Salvation Is “Through Our Lord” (its giver)  ~  “Let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.  For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.  Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing” (1 Thessalonians 5:8-11).

Salvation “Is In Christ Jesus” (its security)  ~  “Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.  Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.  This is a faithful saying: for if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him.  If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.  If we deny Him, He also will deny us.  If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:8-13).

Learn From Gideon, 42

~ Give God The Preeminence ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  Then he tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.  And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, ‘What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?’  So they answered, ‘As you are, so were they; each one resembled the son of a king.’  Then he said, ‘They were my brothers, the sons of my mother.  As the Lord lives, if you had let them live, I would not kill you.’  And he said to Jether his firstborn, ‘Rise, kill them!’  But the youth would not draw his sword; for he was afraid, because he was still a youth.  So Zebah and Zalmunna said, ‘Rise yourself, and kill us; for as a man is, so is his strength.’  So Gideon arose and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.  Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, ‘Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also; for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian’” (Judges 8:17-22).

Learn From Gideon  ~  Gideon understood that the glory belonged to God—not himself.
  1. From the beginning God had told the Israelites that He did not want them to be ruled by a king.
  2. This is the first indication in Scripture of the Israelites wanting a king.
  3. Be careful of man’s praises.  “Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than me’” (Acts 5:29).
  4. Gideon turned down their offer to make him their king.
  5. Like Gideon, all children of God should always give God the glory and preeminence.

Challenge For Us  ~  Do you always put God and His desires for you first?

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
