Jesus Was—But, 2

~ Consider His Position ~

Introduction  ~  Each post in this series looks at an historical event and then follows it up with part of “The Rest of The Story” (as Paul Harvey used to say).

Jesus Was  ~  “And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center [between two criminals]” (John 19:17-18).

But There Is More To The Story  ~  “To the angel of the church of Ephesus write, ‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands’” (Revelation 2:1).

Myth, 23

~ Scripture Can Solve All Problems ~

Myth  ~  This is one of those myths based on a truth.  Scripture does have the correct solutions for all our problems on earth—but Scripture does not solve, and cannot, solve all problems because of the free will which God has chosen to give to mankind.  Scripture does promise the believer a deep inner joy and peace when they maintain their trust in God.

Reality  ~  Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Resource  ~  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.  For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.  Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer.  Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.  And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation” (2 Corinthians 1:3-7).

False Teachers  ~  Understanding the truth of this post will keep one from falling for prevalent teaching of the “Health and Wealth Gospel” proclaimed by many.  This comes in many forms such as: “God wants you to be rich,” “If you have enough faith God will heal you,” “Give money to this organization and all will go well in your life,” and so forth.

Fear God, 148

~ Those Who Fear God Will Ultimately Win ~

God does not want His children living in fear.  “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3).  However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him.  We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”

This Week’s Passage  ~  “Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at His word: ‘your brethren who hated you, who cast you out for My name’s sake, said, “let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy.”  But they shall be ashamed’” (Isaiah 66:5).

Comment  ~  God will separate true believers (possessors) from false believers and hypocrites (professors).  God knows what is genuine and what is fake!

Fearing God Results in Salvation  ~  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).  A wise person fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident” (Proverbs 14:16).  This does not mean the Christian is to live a fearful life—but a life which reverences God and seeks to do His will.

Fearing God Results in Fearlessness  ~  “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).  The answer is: only God.  With the gift of salvation comes responsibility.

Fearing God Results in Witnessing  ~  “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul” (Psalm 66:16).
