God Attribute, 239

~ Voice ~

Scripture ~ Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; ¹² and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

¹³ So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”  (1 Kings 19:11-13)

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. ²⁶ But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. ²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. ²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and My Father are one.” (John 10:25-30)

Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of My mouth.

² Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass. (Deuteronomy 32:1-2)

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice. (John 10:3-5).

Reason to Listen  ~ “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Quotes ~ “Most Christians don’t hear God’s voice because we’ve already decided we aren’t going to do what He says.” –A.W. Tozer

Listen in silence because if your heart is full of other things, you cannot hear the voice of God. –Mother Teresa

Love Not the World, 2

~  Because The World Hates You ~

Introduction to This Series ~ The word world does not refer to the physical world and all its creative beauty. Rather, it refers to the world system, its typical beliefs and often anti-God actions.

Scripture ~ Jesus said, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.'’  If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.  If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.  But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me” (John 15:18-21).

Christ’s Prayer to The Father for You ~ “I gave them your Word; the godless world hated them because of it, because they didn’t join the world’s ways, just as I didn’t join the world’s ways.  I’m not asking that you take them out of the world but that you guard them from the Evil One.  They are no more defined by the world than I am defined by the world.  Make them holy — consecrated — with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth” (John 17:14-17, The Message).

Comment ~ No Christian should be surprised when they encounter resistance or even persecution because of their beliefs.

Thankful For, 11

~ Be Thankful For His Healing ~

Series Note ~ This series looks at specific times when a Christian should take a few moments to thank God.

Scripture ~ “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:1-5).
