~ Jesus Christ Is The Rock ~
Rock Of Salvation
~ “The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted, the Rock of my salvation!”
(2 Samuel 22:47).
Rock Of Shelter
~ “From
the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me
to the rock that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2).
Rock Of Security
~ “Therefore
whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise
man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came,
and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was
founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24-25).
Rock Of Refreshment ~ “And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that
followed them, and that Rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4).
Rock Of Exaltation
~ “This
is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief
cornerstone’” (Acts 4:11).
summary: Consider how Mark opens
his Gospel: “The beginning of the gospel
of Jesus [Savior] Christ [The Messiah, The Anointed One], the Son of God [His
divine nature]” (Mark 1:1).
A Savior is our first need!
He is our Rock of Salvation and our Rock of Shelter.
Second we find that He is God’s Anointed One to be our
Prophet (teacher). He is also anointed
as our Priest (interceding for us). He
us our Rock of Security and our Rock of Refreshment. He is anointed to be King who deserves our
obedience.
Third we find that He is God. As God He is able to do far more than we can
ask or think. Today, He is exalted by
His people as their Rock of Exaltation, and one day will be
universally recognized as King of Kings.
the bottom line: Jesus said, “Whoever hears these
sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his
house on the Rock: and the rain
descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it
did not fall, for it was founded on the Rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do
them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain
descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it
fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27).
the key question: “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).
This is the most important question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it
incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
