~ 7 Aspects of the Lord’s Body ~
His Body Was Prepared By His Father
~ “Therefore,
when He came into the world, He said: ‘Sacrifice
and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings
and sacrifices for sin You had no
pleasure. Then I said, “Behold, I have come — in the volume of the book it is
written of Me — to do Your will, O God”’” (Hebrews 10:5-7).
He Came To Earth In Bodily Form At
The Incarnation ~ “Inasmuch then as
the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in
the same, that through death He might
destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those
who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:14-15).
His Body Was Offered At Calvary
~ “Then
He [Jesus Christ] said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes
away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:9-10).
His Body Was Buried In A Tomb
~
“After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but
secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body
of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of
Jesus. And Nicodemus, who at first came
to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a
hundred pounds. Then they took the body
of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the
Jews is to bury. Now in the place where
He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no
one had yet been laid. So there they laid Jesus, because of the
Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby” (John 19:38-42).
His Body Was Handled After The
Resurrection ~
“Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself
stood in the midst of them, and said to them, ‘Peace to you.’ But they were terrified and frightened, and
supposed they had seen a spirit. And He
said to them, ‘Why are you troubled? And
why do doubts arise in your hearts?
Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle
Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have’”
(Luke 24:36-39).
His Body Was Glorified In Ascension
~ “For
our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform
our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to
the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself” (Philippians 3:20-21).
His Body Is Contemplated During
Communion ~ “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to
you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup
is the new covenant in My blood. This
do, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.’ For as often as
you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He
comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread
or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body
and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him
eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s
body” (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important
question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it
incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
