~ Characteristics of
Effective Christian Service ~
Holiness
~ “You
are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved
ourselves among you who believe; as you know how we exhorted, and comforted,
and charged every one of you, as a
father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you
into His own kingdom and glory” (1 Thessalonians 2:10-12). “To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our
enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him
all the days of our life” (Luke 1:74-75).
Humility
~ “You
know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived
among you, serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which
happened to me by the plotting of the Jews” (Acts 20:18b-19). “God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the
humble” (James 4:6b).
Hope
~ “For
it is written in the law of Moses, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads
out the grain.’ Is it oxen God is concerned about? Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that
he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be
partaker of his hope” (1 Corinthians 9:9-10). “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious
fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and
latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the
Lord is at hand” (James 5:7-8).
