question 7: How many birthday parties are mentioned in
the Bible?
answer: At
least nine …
(1) Pharaoh ~ “Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast
for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the
chief baker among his servants” (Genesis 40:20).
(2-8) Job’s Seven
Sons ~ “There lived in the
land of Uz a man named Job-a good man who
feared God and stayed away from evil. He
had a large family of seven sons and
three daughters and was immensely wealthy, for
he owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 teams of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and
employed many servants. He was, in fact,
the richest cattleman in that entire area. Every year when Job's sons
had birthdays, they invited their brothers and sisters to their homes for a
celebration. On these occasions they would eat and drink with great merriment. When these birthday parties ended-and sometimes they lasted several days-Job
would summon his children to him and sanctify them” (Job
1:1-5a, TLB).
(9) Herod
~
“But when Herod's
birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and
pleased Herod” (Matthew 14:6).
comments: Of course the birth of Jesus Christ is one of
the biggest events in all of Scripture—but I wouldn’t call it a birthday party.
