~ Key Aspects of Biblical Justification ~
The Source of Justification (God) ~ “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but
delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all
things? Who shall bring a charge against
God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who
is he who condemns? It is Christ who
died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who
also makes intercession for us. Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans
8:31-35).
The Principle of Justification (grace) ~ “But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is
revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness
of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there
is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being
justified freely by His grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by
His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to
demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and
the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (Romans
3:21-26).
The Cause of Justification (love) ~ “For when we were still without strength, in due time
Christ died for the ungodly. For
scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone
would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by
His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were
reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been
reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation” (Romans
5:6-11).
The Way of Justification (faith) ~ “Therefore, having been justified
by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into
this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in
tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance,
character; and character, hope. Now hope
does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:1-5).
The Proof of Justification (works) ~ “But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have
works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well.
Even the demons believe—and tremble!
But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is
dead?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac
his son on the altar? Do you see that
faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made
perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled
which says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for
righteousness.’ And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only” (James
2:18-24).
