~ Hope ~
This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God. Generally, we move in alphabetical order.
Introduction ~ While hope is not a direct attribute of God it is almost as if one of God’s names is hope!
Scripture ~ “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance” (Romans 8:24-25).
“If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister” (Colossians 1:23).
“For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You” (Psalm 71:5-6).
“To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).
Additional Scripture (about hope) ~ "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:9-11).
“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord” (Psalm 31:24).
“Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You” (Psalm 33:22).
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him” (Psalms 42:5, 11, 43:5).
“But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more” (Psalm 71:14).
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope” (1 Timothy 1:1).
Responsibility ~ “Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:3).
Quote ~ “Hope is the medicine I use more than any other—hope can cure nearly anything.” (Dr. Robert McNair Wilson, a British cardiologist)
