Learn From Gideon, 41

~ Mentor Others ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth and interrogated him; and he wrote down for him the leaders of Succoth and its elders, 77 men.  Then he came to the men of Succoth and said, ‘Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you ridiculed me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your weary men?”’  And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth” (Judges 8:14-16).

Learn From Gideon  ~  Gideon was a leader in the true sense of the term.
  1. Gideon was a great warrior for God.
  2. Gideon followed his superior’s direction.
  3. Gideon did not let up as the war raged.
  4. Gideon did not rest while the battle continued to rage.
  5. And now we find that Gideon mentored others—another mark of a true leader.  Gideon “took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.”

Challenge For Us  ~  Are you hoarding the knowledge and skills God has given you?  Are you teaching others successful ways of accomplishing God’s work in God’s way?

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.

Water In Scripture, 3of7

~ Water: In Christians ~

Introduction  ~  Water—whether physical or spiritual—is life-giving and life-sustaining.  In this series we are taking a brief look at water as a consistent theme throughout all of The Holy Bible.

The Living Water Is Abundant  ~  Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. ‘I am the Good Shepherd’” (John 10:10-11).

“Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life’” (John 4:13-14).

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (John 10:10-11).

Remember  ~  Water is not only essential for life, but it cleanses and purifies. The Word of God cleanses the individual Christian and the Church of God. “Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word, in order to present her to Himself as a radiant Church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless”(Ephesians 5:25-27).

Water In Scripture, 2of7

~ Water: In Christ’s Life ~

Introduction  ~  Water—whether physical or spiritual—is life-giving and life-sustaining.  In this series we are taking a brief look at water as a consistent theme throughout all of The Holy Bible.

Living Water  ~  Jesus Christ was and is the “Living Water.”  Just as water is life-giving and life-sustaining so Jesus Christ is spiritual life-giving and spiritual life-sustaining.

“Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’  The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw’” (John 4:13-15).

“Then the Jews said among themselves, ‘Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him?  Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?  What is this thing that He said, “You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come”?’  On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:35-39).
