~ Water: In Christ’s Life ~
Introduction
~ Water—whether physical or
spiritual—is life-giving and life-sustaining.
In this series we are taking a brief look at water as a consistent theme
throughout all of The Holy Bible.
Living Water ~ Jesus
Christ was and is the “Living Water.”
Just as water is life-giving and life-sustaining so Jesus Christ is
spiritual life-giving and spiritual life-sustaining.
“Jesus
answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall
give him will never thirst. But the
water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’ The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst,
nor come here to draw’” (John 4:13-15).
“Then the
Jews said among themselves, ‘Where does He intend to go that we shall not find
Him? Does He intend to go to the
Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? What is this thing that He said, “You will
seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come”?’ On the last day, that great day of the feast,
Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and
drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will
flow rivers of living water.’ But
this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive;
for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John
7:35-39).
Remember
~ Water is not only essential for life, but it
cleanses and purifies. The Word of God cleanses the individual Christian and
the Church of God. “Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her to make
her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word, in order to
present her to Himself as a radiant Church, without stain or wrinkle or any
other blemish, but holy and blameless”(Ephesians 5:25-27).
