Question – Jesus, 28

~  Regarding Destination ~

Introduction  ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.

Scripture  ~  “Simon Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, where are You going?  Jesus answered him, ‘Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.’  Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, why can I not follow You now?  I will lay down my life for Your sake.’  Jesus answered him, ‘Will you lay down your life for My sake?  Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times’” (John 13:36-38).

God Is My… (Psalms), 1

~ God Is My Shield ~

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.

Passage  ~  “Lord, how they have increased who trouble me!  Many are they who rise up against me.  Many are they who say of me, ‘There is no help for him in God.’  Selah.
But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head.  I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill” (Psalm 3:1-4).

Significance  ~  God is our protector!

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

“‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen” (Matthew 28:19-20).

Comment  ~  God has provided everything that His people need.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:10-28).

Myth, 34

~ Christians Should Avoid Earthly Pleasure ~

Reality  ~  The experience and testimony of Christians, especially those who continually seek to obey God, is that their life has never been happier or more fulfilling.  Momentary pleasures are replaced with deep-seated joy, satisfaction, and ultimate pleasure.  The earthly pleasures which a Christian experiences far surpass any pleasures they enjoyed before walking in God’s path.  God created our world as a place of enjoyment—but at the same time we realize that this is not our final home “we’re just a passing through” as the old hymn states.

Scripture  ~  King David declared: “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!  Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.  They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, and You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.  For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light” (Psalm 36:7-9).  In another Psalm he said, “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11).

Note  ~  This is not to imply that Christians will not have trouble in this world.  In fact, if they are living according to God’s desires and standards they will likely face more problems rather than less.  But deep down will be a supernatural joy.  “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Destination  ~  Our future home in heaven will surpass all pleasure, enjoyment, and happiness that one can imagine.
