Question – Jesus, 58

~ Regarding Judging, 1of3 ~

Introduction  ~  This series is about questions involving Jesus.  Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth.  Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others.  We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts).  Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.

Scripture  ~  “Then one from the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.’

“But He said to him, ‘Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?  And He said to them, ‘Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses’ (Luke 12:13-15).

Comment  ~  Jesus said, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).

God Is My… (Psalms), 29

~ God Is My Rock, 4 ~

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.

Passage  ~  “I will say to God my Rock, ‘Why have You forgotten me?  Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?’  As with a breaking of my bones, my enemies reproach me, while they say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’” (Psalm 42:9-10).

Prior Passages  ~  “I will love You, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:1-3).

“In You, O Lord, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.  Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me.” (Psalm 31:1-2).

“For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.  Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, for You are my strength.  Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth” (Psalm 31:3-5).

Significance  ~  A rock implies permanence and stability.  In the Gospels we hear Christ teaching about the significance of a solid foundation.  “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.  But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell.  And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:24-27).

Myth, 64

~ People Are Basically Good ~

Introduction  ~  This is the basis of a great divide in underlying philosophies.  Many people believe that mankind is basically good and when experience violates that belief the answers are always the same two.  More money and more education will solve the individual and societal problems.

On the other-hand there are those who believe that our Creator created all things good but gave man – the creative ability of thinking situations through and making decisions.  This necessarily required the ability to make great or faulty decisions.  But our first ancestors misused this free will they had been given.  The Bible tells us the first man and woman failed and made bad choices and that the consequences have been with all of mankind ever since.  All of mankind since Adam and Eve has inherited this sinful nature.

Scripture  ~  “For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:22b-23).

Side Note  ~  There is a common answer to many routine questions today which is, “I’m good.”  For example, at the dinner table if one is asked if they’d like more potatoes the answer might be, “I’m good!”  The fact of the matter is no one is good – but they can be seen as sinless and perfect in God’s eyes if they have taken on the righteousness of Jesus Christ through His plan of salvation laid out in the Bible.
