Ten, 1

~ Ten Curtains, 1 ~

Introduction ~ This series is about portions of Scripture which specifically mention ten (10) items. (I am aware that there are those in my readership who are into Biblical numerology.) All Scripture is from the New American Standard (Updated) unless otherwise specified (emphasis added). The Scripture below is one of many passages which specifically mention ten of something.

Scripture ~ “Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue and purple and scarlet material; you shall make them with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman” (Exodus 26:1).

Numerology ~ Scripture numerologists often refer to the number ten as referring to as fullness or completeness. Following is one explanation:

“In connection with five, and as very near akin to it in meaning, we may take ten.  It is but five times two, as I have already said.  The ten fingers and toes are plainly so, and they give us respectively man’s capacity for action and competence for an upright walk.  But the measure of capacity is that of responsibility, and the measure of responsibility is that of judgment or of reward.  Thus ten plagues fell upon Egypt.

“The Ten Commandments are on the two tables of testimony, the measure, on the divine side, of man’s responsibility.

“In the kingdom of the ten tribes

“The ten toes of the image in Nebuchadnezzar’s vision enable the feet to stand firm – are what answer to the ten horns upon the fourth beast in that of the prophet – again the measure of power.

“In the ten virgins of the parable, responsibility is enforced; and here they are five wise, five foolish.  The testimony here is that of the bridegroom’s return.

“Finally, in the tithe demanded by God in Israel, we have the whole (of whatever it might be) looked at as composed of ten parts, the measure of responsibility, of which God takes one in token of His sovereignty.” –F.W. Grant

Sabbath, 9of9

~ The Lord’s Day – Sunday – Was Observed By John ~

Introduction  ~  In the Old Testament the Sabbath was established as part of The Law.  The Sabbath is observed from sundown Friday evening through sundown Saturday evening.  In the New Testament the law of God is written on believers’ hearts (Romans 2:12-16) rather than on tablets of stone.  It is the heart’s attitude which now supersedes outward obedience (Romans 10:10).  Following Christ’s resurrection, which occurred on the first day of the week, the Disciples and later the Church have observed their day of rest on Sunday in remembrance of Christ’s resurrection (Acts 20:7).

Passage  ~  “I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.  I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,’ and, ‘What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea’” (Revelation 1:9-11).

Comment  ~  From the time of Christ’s resurrection the majority of Christians have chosen to set apart the first day of the week in honor of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The entire Christian faith rises or falls on the reality of the resurrection.  Many have tried to prove that the resurrection never happened.  None have succeeded and many in their attempts found the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Have you?

10 Essential Facts, 4of10

~ Jesus Was Born On Earth Of A Virgin ~

Introduction ~ The most important fundamentals of Christianity include beliefs about the birth of Jesus, His sinless life, His death, His burial, and His resurrection.

In this series we look at ten facts about Jesus Christ.

Scripture ~ “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David.  The virgin’s name was Mary.  And having come in, the angel said to her, ‘Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!

“But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was.  Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.  He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.  And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.’

“Then Mary said to the angel, ‘How can this be, since I do not know a man?

“And the angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.  Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.  For with God nothing will be impossible.’

“Then Mary said, ‘Behold the maidservant of the Lord!  Let it be to me according to your Word.’ And the angel departed from her” (Luke 1:26-38).

“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.’

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” (Luke 2:10-14).

Note ~ The “incarnation” of God taking the form of a human on earth is one of the great truths of Christianity.

Benefits For God’s People, 28

~ God Is Merciful ~

Series Information ~ The Bible is full of promises to those who have trusted in God as their only true source of salvation.  Most of the 100+ posts in this series are exclusively for God’s family.  These postings are far from an exhaustive list!  It is important to realize you are not a member of God’s family unless you have made a specific intentional decision to trust Jesus Christ as your savior.  If you have not done that or are not sure if you have then I suggest you settle it today. Here is a good website which will help you: https://www.focusonthefamily.com/faith/what-must-i-do-to-be-saved/

Series Theme Scripture ~ For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ].  For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God” (2 Corinthians1:20 amp).

This Post Scripture ~ “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You” (Psalm 86:5).

Satan in Matthew 4, 7of9

~ Satan Shows ~

Series Note:  Matthew 4 is a well-known chapter which gives an account of Satan tempting Jesus Christ in the wilderness.  There has been a lot written and discussed regarding these three temptations (the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life).

While the study of Matthew 4 is a rich study regarding our Savior Jesus Christ it also allows us to have insight into some of Satan’s abilities and actions.  This series contains nine examples which make it clear that Satan is a real personality.

Scripture ~ “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.  And he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me’ (Matthew 4:8-9).

Comment ~ Think of Satan as the first to use “show and tell.”

God Attribute, 178

~ Remembers ~

This Series ~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Introduction ~ This post is a little different than most in this series. It focuses more on the meaning of God’s remembrance.

Scripture ~ “No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more” (Jeremiah 31:34).

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Hebrews 8:12).

“‘This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds, I will write them,’ then He adds, ‘Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.’ Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin” (Hebrews 10:16-18).

~ Problem ~

If, as we believe, God is all-knowing (omniscient) how could He possibly forget (“remember no more”)?  The answer is that translating the Biblical languages into English varies from relatively easy to almost impossible. What the Scripture is saying would be better understood as I will not hold those sins against them any longer (since they have already been forgiven).

Comment ~ As humans we are told to Remember!

“Therefore, I positioned men behind the lower parts of the wall, at the openings; and I set the people according to their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, ‘Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses’” (Nehemiah 4:13-14).

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
