Newness In Christ, 4

As a growing believer one develops a new thought life.

Scripture  ~  “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2).

“But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:20-24).

“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.  For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?  Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.  These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.  For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’  But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:10-16).

Comment  ~  Romans 12:2 above references “that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”  Those who are interested in exploring the will of God in some depth will find the author’s books on the subject very helpful.

God Attribute, 94

~ God Operates With Purpose ~

This Series  ~  This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.

Introduction  ~  Even when things appear bleak God is working behind the scenes to accomplish His purposes.

Scripture  ~  And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:28-30).

“Joseph said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.’ And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them” (Genesis 50:19-21).

“For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:10-11).

It helped both to understand how each area of growth grows upon one another and helped to keep grounded in process. I also loved how everything taught was scripture based. Good book to explain process of spiritual growth." ~D. Chatley (Amazon review)

A timely book for those who long for faster, more consistent spiritual growth.

Why Trust God? 69

~ God Is A God of Love and Relationship ~

Introduction  ~  “Abundant Life Now” previously provided a list of Biblical of examples of fearing / reverencing God (217 posts).  In this current series we look at Biblical accounts that demonstrate that we can fully trust God.  Initially we posted seven general reasons for trusting God.  We are currently looking at passages from all 66 books of Scripture which demonstrate a reason for trusting our Creator.

Scripture  ~  “The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.  Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth — for your love is better than wine.  Because of the fragrance of your good ointments, Your name is ointment poured forth; therefore the virgins love you.  Draw me away!  We will run after you.  The king has brought me into his chambers.  We will be glad and rejoice in you.   We will remember your love more than wine.  Rightly do they love you.

“I am dark, but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon.  Do not look upon me, because I am dark, because the sun has tanned me.  My mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept.  Tell me, O you whom I love, where you feed your flock, where you make it rest at noon.  For why should I be as one who veils herself by the flocks of your companions?

“If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow in the footsteps of the flock, and feed your little goats beside the shepherds’ tents.

“I have compared you, my love, to my filly among Pharaoh’s chariots. Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments, your neck with chains of gold.  We will make you ornaments of gold with studs of silver.

“While the king is at his table, my spikenard sends forth its fragrance. A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me, that lies all night between my breasts. My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blooms in the vineyards of En Gedi.

“Behold, you are fair, my love!  Behold, you are fair!  You have dove’s eyes.

“Behold, you are handsome, my beloved! Yes, pleasant! Also our bed is green.

“The beams of our houses are cedar, and our rafters of fir” (Song of Solomon 1:1-17).

The Christian Walk, 1

~ Walk By Faith ~

Series Introduction  ~  The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should live their life.  Christians should never have to guess about the life that pleases God.  In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about the Christian walk on earth.

Scripture  ~ “So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.  For we walk by faith, not by sight.  We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8).

Additional Scripture  ~  “Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also?  For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.  How then was it accounted?  While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised?  Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.  And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also, and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised” (Romans 4:9-12).

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord [by faith], so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:6-7).

Quote  ~  “To walk with someone means you are aware of their presence.  And this is true with God.  If you’re to walk with Him, you must be continually aware of His presence.” —Kay Smith {Pleasing God)

In Jesus We Have… , 42

Introduction ~ In this series we look at a few of the verses which state what we have when we are “in Christ.”  Consider our series theme verse:

“God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:4-10).

Currently we are posting some of the many verses which talk about eternal life?

What is your definition of “eternal”?

Scripture ~ “So He said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life’” (Luke 18:29-30).

Comment ~ I like to consider one-word descriptions of the Bible.  There are many but my favorite is “forgiveness.”

Bible Answer, 113

~ Did You Get It Right? ~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~ bible answer ~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
question:  What are the two great commandments that Christians are to adhere to?
answer:  (1) Love God and (2) love other people.
Jesus said, “I shall be with you a little while longer.  You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you.  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another’” (John 13:33-35).
God Attribute, 93
~ God Punishes ~
This Series  ~  This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God.  Generally, we move in alphabetical order.
Introduction  ~  There is coming a day when God will punish those who never received the free salvation offered to them through the sacrificial death of His Son Jesus Christ.
Scripture  ~  “And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:12-15).
Comment  ~  God does not punish His believing children for their sins.
“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:11-12).
