~ The Christian’s Heart ~
A Broken Heart (confesses sin) ~ “For You do not
desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt
offering. The sacrifices of God are a
broken spirit, a broken and a contrite
heart — these, O God, You will not despise” (Psalm 51:16-17).
An Opened Heart (receives the Word) ~ “Now a certain
woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of
Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things
spoken by Paul. And when she and her
household were baptized” (Acts 16:14-15a).
A Sincere Heart (serves faithfully) ~ “Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters
according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ” (Ephesians 6:5).
A Pure Heart (loves fervently) ~ “Since you have
purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently
with a pure heart” (1 Peter
1:22).
A True Heart (draws near to God) ~ “Therefore,
brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new
and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His
flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with
pure water” (Hebrews 10:19-22).
A Purposed Heart (holds tight to the Lord)
~ “Then
news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent
out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When
he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all
that with purpose of heart they
should continue with the Lord” (Acts 11:22-23).
caution: Beware of the lurking
danger. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing
that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle
you. To Him be the glory and the
dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 5:8-11).
An Evil Heart (departs from the Lord)
~ “Beware,
brethren, lest there be in any of you an
evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). “Then the Lord saw that
the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually” (Genesis 6:5).
