~ Jesus Christ is The Reigning King ~
The Bible is about Jesus Christ
~ “Jesus
said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that
the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory?’ And
beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said
in all the Scriptures concerning Himself” (Luke 24:25-27).
In 1 Chronicles Jesus Christ is the sovereign reigning
King. He is the perfect King, the
perfect Priest, and the perfect Prophet.
Recall that the Lord made a covenant with David (see 1
Chronicles 17). This covenant included
the hope of the Messiah coming as a Son of David. Solomon was a great and wise king—but he did
not reign forever! After Solomon’s death
Israel was divided into two kingdoms which were both ruled for much of the time
by evil kings. Eventually both kingdoms
were conquered and the Israelites were taken as prisoners. Also, recall that that Solomon’s temple was
destroyed. At this point, it would have
appeared to those living at the time as if the Lord’s covenant with David was
not to be fulfilled.
We know that later the Messiah, Jesus Christ, did
come! Although the Messiah was a skilled
wood craftsman, the temple which He built was not made of inanimate materials
but rather with human beings!
“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but
fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having
been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself
being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together,
grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together
for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians
2:19-22).
Comment
~ We have only touched the
surface of Christ in 2 Chronicles.
The Apostle
Paul told us the Scriptures present many shadows of things to come but the
reality is found in Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:17).
