~ 3 Aspects Of His Suffering ~
He Suffered For Sins (at the hand of God) ~ “Then the soldiers
of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison
around Him. And they stripped Him and
put a scarlet robe on Him. When they had
twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right
hand. And they bowed the knee before Him
and mocked Him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and
struck Him on the head. And when they
had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led
Him away to be crucified. … They gave Him sour wine
mingled with gall to drink. But when He
had tasted it, He would not drink” (Matthew
27:27-31, 34). “Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that
He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the
Spirit” (1 Peter 3:18).
He Suffered For Righteousness (at the hands of men) ~ “For to this you
were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His
steps: ‘Who committed no sin, nor was
deceit found in His mouth;’ who,
when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not
threaten, but committed Himself to Him
who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the
tree, that we, having died to sins, might
live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:21-24).
He Suffered By
Temptation
(from Satan) ~ “Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His
brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things
pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in
that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are
tempted” (Hebrews 2:17-18).
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15). This is the most important
question you will ever answer. If you do not answer it, or answer it
incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!
