~ 7 Aspects of a Disciple of Jesus
Christ ~
The Disciple’s Master
~ “So
when Jesus had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He
said to them, ‘Do you know what I have done to you? You
call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet, you also ought to wash one anothers feet. For I have given you an example, that you
should do as I have done to you. Most
assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he
who is sent greater than he who sent him.
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them’” (John
13:12-17).
The Disciple’s Book
~ “From
childhood you [Timothy] have known the
Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith
which is in Christ Jesus. All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God
may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2
Timothy 3:15-17).
The Disciple’s Clothing
~ “Likewise
you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another,
and be clothed with humility, for
‘God resists
the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may
exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1
Peter 5:5-7).
The Disciple’s Badge
~ Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one
another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this
all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another”
(John 13:34-35).
The Disciple’s Cross
~ “Now
great multitudes went with Jesus. And He
turned and said to them, ‘If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father
and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life
also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come
after Me cannot be My disciple. For
which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the
cost, whether he has enough to finish it — lest, after he has laid the
foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,
saying, “This man began to build and was not able to finish”’” (Luke
14:25-30).
The Disciple’s Fruit
~ Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who
abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do
nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me,
he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them
into the fire, and they are burned. If
you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this
My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples”
(John 15:5-8).
The Disciple’s Companions
~ “At
midnight I will rise to give thanks to You,
because of
Your righteous judgments. I am a companion of all who fear You, and of those
who keep Your precepts” (Psalm 119:62-63).
