Learn From Gideon, 6

~ Bad Things Do Happen To Good People ~

The Biblical account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting character studies in all of Scripture.  In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the Christian life today.

Scripture  ~  Gideon said to Him, ‘O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us?  And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’  But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites” (Judges 6:13).

Learn From Gideon  ~  Circumstances don’t necessarily show reality.  The reality of bad things happening to good people and its opposite of good things happening to bad people has been an issue of contemplation since the beginning.
  1. The Bible understands and teaches this reality. “He [God the Father] makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45b).
  2. God does not eliminate troubles from our life as a reward for obedience.  If you doubt this read the Book of Job.

concluding comment  ~  We learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
