~ 4 Characteristics Of The Christian’s
Hope ~
Prolog ~ As
noted in the first post in this series, the Christian’s “hope” is easily
misunderstood. The meaning of the root
word in Scripture is of an absolute certainty.
A Good Hope
~ “Therefore, brethren, stand
fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our
epistle. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ
Himself, and our God and Father, who has
loved us and given us everlasting
consolation and good hope by grace, comfort
your hearts and establish you in every good word and work” (2 Thessalonians
2:15-17).
A Living Hope
~ “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His abundant mercy has
begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not
fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through
faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5).
A Purifying Hope
~ “Behold what manner of love the
Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because
it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are
children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know
that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He
is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is
pure” (1 John 3:1-3).
A Blessed Hope
~ “For the grace of God that
brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the
present age, looking for the blessed hope
and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave
Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for
Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with
all authority. Let no one despise you” (Titus
2:11-15).
Epilog
~ “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor
ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has
prepared for those who love Him.’ But God has revealed them to us through His
Spirit. For the Spirit searches all
things, yes, the deep things of God. For
what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in
him? Even so no one knows the things of
God except the Spirit of God. Now we
have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1
Corinthians 2:9-12).
