~ Sincerity Towards God
Develops Faith ~
The Biblical
account of the life of Gideon provides for one of the most interesting
character studies in all of Scripture.
In this series we will discover practical lessons for living the
Christian life today.
Scripture ~ “Now Gideon
perceived that He was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said, ‘Alas, O Lord God!
For I have seen the Angel of the Lord
face to face.’ Then the Lord said to him, ‘Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.’ So Gideon
built an altar there to the Lord,
and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the
Abiezrites” (Judges 6:22-24).
Learn From Gideon
~ There are several things we
observe in this short passage.
- Sometimes God sends strong reassurances to us (He sent “the Angel of the Lord” to minister to Gideon).
- A life of obedience to God brings peace. “You will keep him in peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3).
- A believer can have inward peace regardless of circumstances.
- We should praise and worship God for all His benefits to us (Gideon “built an altar to the Lord”)
concluding comment ~ We
learn about Gideon primarily from Judges 6-8, but also Isaiah 9:1-7, and
Hebrews 11:1-3, 32-34.
