Key Characteristics of Salvation ~
Salvation is not a Reward
for the Righteous.
It is an available Gift
for those who understand their Guilt!
A
Great Salvation
~ “Therefore we must give the
more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved
steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a
salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was
confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with
signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit,
according to His own will?” (Hebrews 2:1-4).
A
Present Salvation
~ “We then, as workers together
with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have
heard you,
and in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now
is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians
6:1-2). “Now thanks be to God who always
leads us in triumph in Christ, and through
us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among
those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading
to death, and to the other the aroma of
life leading to life. And who is sufficient
for these things? For we are not, as so
many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak
in the sight of God in Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:14-17).
A
Common Salvation
~ “Beloved, while I was very
diligent to write to you concerning our
common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to
contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the
saints. For certain men have crept in
unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who
turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord
Jesus Christ” (Jude 3-4).
A
Known Salvation
~ “‘And you, child, will be
called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord
to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the
remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, with which the
Dayspring from on high has visited us; to give light to those who sit in
darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.’ So the child grew and became strong in spirit,
and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel” (Luke
1:76-80).
An
Eternal Salvation
~ “Having been perfected, Jesus became the author of eternal salvation
to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest ‘according to the order of
Melchizedek,’ of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have
become dull of hearing” (Hebrews 5:9-11).
