3 Key Factors for Good Works ~
A
Key Statement
~ “And now abide faith,
hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1
Corinthians 13:13).
Abound
in Faith ~ “So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so
he would also complete this grace [abundant giving] in you as well. But as you abound in everything—in faith,
in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us—see that you
abound in this grace also [generosity]” (2 Corinthians 8:6-7).
Abound
in Hope ~ “Now may the God of hope fill you with all
joy and peace in believing, that you may
abound in hope by the power of
the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
Abound
in Love ~ “And this I pray, that your love may abound
still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the
things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the
day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus
Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11).
The
Result ~ “And God is able to make all grace abound
toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound in every good work” (2
Corinthians 9:8-9).
Important
Comment ~ A correct understanding of the Bible clearly
shows that good works have absolutely nothing to do with becoming a child of
God. However, good works are the normal (not necessarily the average) result of becoming a child of
God. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, not of works, lest
anyone should boast. For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:8-10).
