God Is My… (Psalms), 30

~ God Is My Savior ~

Introduction  ~  Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms.  While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.

Passage  ~  “I will love You, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:1-3).

Significance  ~  This is at the very heart of the message of the Bible.  Eternal life with God is available for those who accept the conditions of the free gift of salvation.  Consider five truths:
  1. We are all sinners – Romans 3:10-12, 3:23; Psalm 51:5
  2. We will all die. – Romans 6:23; Hebrews 9:27; Romans 5:12
  3. We will all be judged. – 2 Corinthians 5:10; Romans 14:10-12; Matthew 25:31-46
  4. We cannot save ourselves. – Romans 5:6-16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5
  5. Our only hope is Jesus. – John 14:6; Acts 4:12, 16:30-31

Comment  ~  This separates Christianity from all religions.  Christianity is a relationship between God and an individual.  Salvation is DONE and there is nothing to DO.  Christ did it all on the Cross.  This flies in the face of man’s innate pride which wants to earn their way.  Jesus’ on the Cross said, “It [the work of salvation] is finished!”
