~ Rescuer ~
This
Series
~ This series of posts looks at some of the many attributes of God. Generally, we move in alphabetical order.
Introduction ~ In the
broad sense the business of God in the world today is rescuing sinners
from their sin wages (death: Romans 3:23, 6:23). He does this by offering the
gift of eternal life, made possible only through the substitutionary payment
for their sins by the death, burial, and most importantly resurrection of His
Son – Jesus Christ.
Scripture ~ “Therefore
say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under
the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and
I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments” (Exodus
6:6).
There
are additional verses which indicate the confidence that believers have in
God’s ability to rescue them.
“Lord,
how long will You look on? Rescue me from their destructions, my
precious life from the lions. I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I
will praise You among many people” (Psalm 35:17-18).
“Stretch
out Your hand from above; rescue me and deliver me out of great waters,
from the hand of foreigners. … Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of
foreigners, whose mouth speaks lying words, and whose right hand is a right
hand of falsehood” (Psalm 144:7, 11).
