Christian Action, 38of39

~ Do Not Be Overwhelmed By The Evil Around You ~

Series Note  ~  In just the single chapter of Romans 12 the Apostle Paul gave believers a list of 39 things which are part of the Christian life which pleases God.  This chapter is crying out saying, “If you name Jesus Christ as your Savior then please act like a Christian!  It is Paul’s “To Do List” for us.  The key principle is that while you and I cannot change God’s character (who He really is) we have the clear potential to damage His reputation (what others think He is).

Scripture to Meditate On  ~  Do not be overcome by evil” (Romans 12:21a).

Comment  ~  Jesus Christ was the ultimate realist.  He didn’t look at things through rose-colored glasses, but rather He always spoke the truth.

Related Passages  ~  “Jesus answered them, ‘Do you now believe?  Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone.  And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.  These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world’” (John 16:31-33).

Jesus Was…, 11

~ Jesus Christ Was Before All Things ~

Passages  ~  “Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence” (Colossians 1:15-18).

“In the beginning was the Word [Jesus Christ], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:1-5).

Comment  ~  Jesus Christ was involved in creation—as were all three members of the Trinity.  “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).  “God” is plural in the original language!  Later in this first chapter of the Bible we find this plural reference to the God of creation, “Let Us make man in Our own image according to Our likeness…” (Genesis 1:26).

In Genesis 1:2 we read, “The Spirit of God” was involved in creation.  The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2).

In Psalm 33:4 we find, “By the Word of the Lord [Yahweh or Jehovah] the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth…”

In John 1:1 we read, “In the beginning was the Word [Jesus Christ]…”  In Colossians we find that Jesus Christ was/is key both in Creation and also the sustaining of the Creation.  “For by Him [Jesus Christ] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:16-17).

the key question:  “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15).  This is the most important question you will ever answer.  If you do not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake anyone can make!

Salvation, 28

~ Romans Road, 3of7, Question 2 ~

Salvation is not a Reward for the Righteous.
It is an available Gift for those who understand their Guilt!

Introduction  ~  The Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ is straight forward.  This series of posts includes questions and answers from the Roman Road presentation of the Gospel.

Reference  ~  “Romans Road, 1of7” posted March 9, 2019

Question  ~   How does God provide salvation?

Answer  ~  God’s only natural Son died for our sins on the Cross of Calvary.

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Note  ~  “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:14-17).
