~ The Christian’s Role
in the World ~
Sent Into The World ~ Jesus
Christ speaking to His Father said, “Sanctify them [Christians] by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have
sent them into the world. And for their
sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth” (John 17:17-19). So Jesus said to them
again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21).
Preaching To The World ~ “And
He [Jesus Christ] said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature. He who believes and is
baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned’” (Mark 16:15-16).
The Light Of The World ~ “Do
all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and
harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse
generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of
Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain” (Philippians 2:14-16). Jesus Christ said, “You
[Christians] are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it
under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
Live Godly In The World ~ “For
the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us
that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and
glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself
for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself
His own special people, zealous for good works” (Titus 2:11-14).
Not Conformed To The
World ~ “I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable
service. And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what
is that good and acceptable and
perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2). Jesus Christ speaking to God—His Father said, “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because
they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of
the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of
the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have
sent them into the world. And for their
sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth” (John 17:14-19).
Love Not The World ~ “Do
not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the
Father is not in him. For all that is in
the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is
not of the Father but is of the world. And
the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God
abides forever” (1 John 2:15-17). “Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has
departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia” (2 Timothy 4:10).
Passing Through The
World ~ “Beloved,
I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war
against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when
they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe,
glorify God in the day of visitation” (1 Peter 2:11-12).
No Friendship With The
World ~ “Pure
and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and
widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27). “[Spiritual] Adulterers
and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world
is enmity with God? Whoever therefore
wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in
vain, ‘The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously’?” (James 4:4-5).
