~ The Present Work of God’s Grace ~
Key Scripture
~ “Do
not be carried about with various
and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by
grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been
occupied with them” (Hebrews 13:9).
Comment ~ The present work of God’s grace establishes
the Christian on a firm foundation. The
term “spiritual gifts” is actually better translated as “grace gifts” and
“natural abilities” are also grace gifts.
The grace gift of salvation provides the foundation for good works (good
deeds done by anyone except those who have accepted the free grace gift of
salvation is worthless in God’s eyes).
“For no other
foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with
gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it,
because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of
what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a
reward. If anyone’s work is burned,
he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire” (1
Corinthians 3:11-15).
Contemplate This
~ “We are [being] transfigured
much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful
as [the grace of] God enters our lives and we become
like Him” (2 Corinthians 3:18b, The
Message).
