~ A 3-Fold Manner of Life ~
Live Thoughtfully (in
regard to ourselves) ~ “Therefore I urge
you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy
sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will
of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not
to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as
God has allotted to each a measure of faith” (Romans
12:1-3).
Live Righteously (in
respect to the world) ~ “So you may walk in
the way of goodness, and keep
to the paths of righteousness” (Proverbs 2:20). “Make it your
ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your
hands, just as we told you, so that your daily
life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent
on anybody” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12).
Live Godly (in
relation to God) ~ “But you have
carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering,
love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch,
at Iconium, at Lystra — what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer
persecution” (2 Timothy 3:10-12).
