The Importance of
Faith! ~
Passage ~ In the great Hall of Faith
chapter in the Bible we read, “By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not
see death, ‘and was not found, because God had taken him;’ for before he was
taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without
faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe
that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews
11:5-6).
Comments ~ In
this list of faithful servants of God we find this clear declaration: “without faith it is
impossible to please Him.” Specifically, this short portion of God’s Hall
of Faith is about Enoch—a man of significant faith. In other words we should strive to live a
Godly life like Enoch did. Consider for
example that we are told that:
[1] From what we read in Scripture Enoch apparently “walked
with God” (Genesis 5:24) throughout his life of 365 years (Genesis 5:23),
[2] We are specifically told that he “pleased God” (Hebrews
11:5),
[3] Enoch was one of God’s prophets, “Now Enoch, the
seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also” (Jude 14a),
[4] And finally “By faith Enoch was taken
away so that he did not see death, ‘and was not found, because God had taken
him’” (Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5).
One thing strongly implied in this passage is that good
works done without faith are not a good thing in God’s eyes. Only that which is done through faith is of
eternal value.
