Spiritual War, 2of20

~ Spiritual War: The Basics ~

Our War  ~  We are in a very unusual battle—one against spiritual rather than physical forces.  “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:11-13).

Our Fight  ~  We are on the right side of the battle.  We are fighting the fight of faith.  Our fight is for truth, right, justice, and the kingdom of God Himself.  “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6:11-12).

Our Resources  ~  Fellowship with mature Christians is vital.  “A wise man is strong, yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; for by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 24:5-6).

Our Discharge  ~  There is no release from that war, and wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it” (Ecclesiastes 8:8b).  The NIV puts it this way: “As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.”
