~ The Bible is Like Solid Food—Necessary for Growth and Maturity ~
Bible Similes ~ The
Word of God likens itself to a number of practical items. “The Word is like…” In this series we will look at some of the
similes of the Bible which are presented clearly in the Bible itself.
Like Solid Food (necessary for growth) ~ “For though by this time you ought to be
teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the
oracles of God; and you have come to need
milk and not solid food. For
everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the Word of righteousness,
for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full
age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14).
Christian maturity results in the ability to correctly judge what is
right and wrong.
Like Solid Food (correct digestion is important) ~ “Brethren, I do not want you to be unaware
that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were
baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual
drink. For they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But
with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered
in the wilderness. Now these things
became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as
they also lusted” (1 Corinthians 10:1-6).
Application ~ How is your spiritual diet? Are you growing in understanding of spiritual
matters? If not, your lack of growth is
abnormal!
