God’s Vessels ~
Chosen
Vessels ~ “Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus
named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, ‘Ananias.’ And he said, ‘Here I am, Lord.’ So the Lord said to him, ‘Arise and go to the
street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul
of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.
And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting
his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.’ Then Ananias answered, ‘Lord, I have heard
from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in
Jerusalem. And here he has authority
from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.’ But the Lord said to him, ‘Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My
name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must
suffer for My name’s sake.’ And Ananias
went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said,
‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has
sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy
Spirit.’ Immediately there fell from his
eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and
was baptized. So when he had received
food, he was strengthened. Then Saul
spent some days with the disciples at Damascus” (Acts 9:10-19).
Broken
Vessels ~ Broken vessels are a result of sin. “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I [David] am
in trouble; my eye wastes away with grief, yes, my soul and my body! For my life is spent with grief, and my years
with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away. I am a reproach among all my enemies, but
especially among my neighbors, and am repulsive to my acquaintances; those who
see me outside flee from me. I am
forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I
am like a broken vessel. For I hear
the slander of many; fear is on every side; while they take counsel together
against me, they scheme to take away my life” (Psalm 31:9-13).
Honorable
Vessels ~ “But in a great house there are not only
vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some
for dishonor. Therefore if anyone
cleanses himself from the latter, he will
be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for
every good work” (2 Timothy 2:20-21).
A
Filled Vessel
~ “See then that you walk
circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days
are evil. Therefore do not be unwise,
but understand what the will of the Lord is.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to
one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody
in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the
Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the
fear of God” (Ephesians 5:15-21).
