~ Walk, Don’t Sprint ~
Series
Introduction ~ The New Testament has much to say about how a believer should
live their life. Christians should never have to guess about the life that
pleases God. In this series we look at a variety of passages that speak about
the Christian walk on earth.
Scripture ~ “Enoch
lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch
walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the
days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with
God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:21-24).
Comments ~ If when
you die God were to write an epitaph about your life, can you imagine Him
making a better statement about your life than “he walked with Me”?
Walking
is about a continuous and steady action – it involves consistency and
regularity. Enoch lived a live of constant relationship with God.
If
you are like me, you look back on your life and you find inconsistency – even
fickleness – regarding your relationship with God. At times I have sprinted,
jogged, walked, or even taken a period of rest. But “Enoch walked with
God three hundred years.” There is no mention of hint of inconsistency with his
walk. Since, we know Enoch was a sinner like the rest of us, we can be sure it
wasn’t an absolute consistency – but as God viewed his entire life God was
pleased.
Quote ~ “To walk with someone means you are aware of their
presence. And this is true with God. If you’re to walk with Him, you must be
continually aware of His presence.” —Kay Smith (Pleasing God)
Resources ~ The author has written two books that are
particularly relevant for those seeking a closer walk with God.
