~ The Bible is Like Bread—It Will Feed and Nourish You ~
Bible Similes ~ The
Word of God likens itself to a number of practical items. “The Word is like…” In this series we will look at some of the
similes of the Bible which are presented clearly in the Bible itself.
Like Bread (satisfies hunger) ~ The Bible is the written Word of God. Jesus Christ is the living Word of God. “And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he
who believes in Me shall never thirst’” (John 6:35).
“Most assuredly, I [Jesus Christ] say to you, he who believes in Me
has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness,
and are dead. This is the bread which
comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am
the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever;
and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of
the world” (John 6:47-51). Jesus Christ
is the sustainer of life.
Like Bread (an open invitation) ~ “Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and
without cost. Why
spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight
in the richest of fare” (Isaiah 55:1–2).
Application ~ Bread has been called “the staff of
life.” It represents basic food. Are you on a steady diet consisting of the
“Bread of Life”?
