Jesus Christ Came To Seek Out The Lost ~
Passages ~ “Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, ‘Look,
Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from
anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has
come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save
that which was lost’” (Luke 19:8-10).
“So Jesus spoke this parable to them, saying: ‘What man of
you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the
ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go
after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his
shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes
home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice
with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!” I say to you that likewise there will be more
joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons
who need no repentance” (Luke 15:3-7).
Significance ~ Natural
man does not seek out God. It is only
when the Spirit of God works in his or her heart that salvation comes to an
individual. God has foreknowledge of
which individuals will respond to the Spirit working in them.
Comment ~ The Bible is clear “whoever believes” may find salvation in Jesus Christ. A good example of that clarity is the best-known verse in the Bible: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew
16:15). This is the most important
question you will ever answer. If you do
not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake
anyone can make!
