Jesus Christ Was Crucified In Weakness Even Though He Is All-Powerful ~
Passage ~ “I
have told you before, and foretell as if I were present the second time, and now
being absent I write to those who have sinned before, and to all the rest, that
if I come again I will not spare — since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in
me, who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you. For though
He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live
with Him by the power of God toward you” (2 Corinthians 13:2-4).
Significance ~ Someone
has defined “meekness” as strength under control. Jesus Christ was all-powerful yet He humbled
Himself for our benefit. “Let this mind
be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who,
being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but
made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in
the likeness of men. And being found in
appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of
death, even the death of the cross. Therefore
God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every
name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and
of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians
2:5-11).
Comment ~ By His choice! It was His choice to obey the will of His Father. Jesus Christ is our role model—He set the pattern for His followers. The Apostle Paul said, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
the key question:
“Who do you say that I am?”
(Matthew 16:15). This is the most important
question you will ever answer. If you do
not answer it, or answer it incorrectly, you have made the biggest mistake
anyone can make!
